Assignment 6: Financefocus Unilever
(October 2006 - August 2007)
Summary of the situation
In 2006 Unilever decided to outsource part of the activities from the Financial Shared Service Centre to IBM (Poland / India). Cantor took up the job of Migration Manager in the outsourcing project. As such he reported to the General Manager of the Unilever Financial Shared Service Centre (Financefocus).
Activities
- Managing the project team members (5 ftu) in order to achieve the migration ‘milestones', which were set for the outsourcing activities.
- Ensuring a seamless transition of the activities to IBM in collaboration with the people at IBM, the Central Unilever project team and the project members of the Financefocus clients.
- Member of the Financefocus management team.
Results
A seamless migration of the activities (in scope) to IBM in accordance with a preset planning (based on the expectations at IBM and Unilever).
Assignment 5: Financefocus Unilever
(September 2005 - September 2006)
Summary of the situation
In 2005 a project started at Unilever - with approximately 200 project members - to reorganise the entire European supply chain (via Switzerland). In this project, Cantor, operating from within the Unilever Shared Service Centre, was responsible for the migration of the new Swiss Unilever customer. In his role at the Financial Service Centre, Cantor reported to the Programme Manager of the overall project, which was named Mountain / Sirius.
Activities
- Managing the project members in order to achieve the migration "milestones" for all processes (A/P, A/R, Closing, VAT) within Financefocus.
- Determining the activities that would be in scope for FSS, in collaboration with the key Unilever project members.
- Member of the Financefocus Mountain / Sirius project management.
Results
- A smoothly running administration for the Swiss client, handled from the Unilever Financial Service Centre in Vlaardingen.
- Improvements were achieved which resulted in obvious efficiency benefits in relation to the situation before the setup of the Service Centre.
Assignment 4: Financefocus Unilever
(March 2005 - September 2005)
Summary of the situation
Operating from the Close to Report Department, Cantor was responsible for the migration of the Unilever Belgium subsidiaries to the Shared Service Centre in Vlaardingen. In his role within the Financial Service Centre, Cantor reported to the Project Leader Migration Belgium.
Activities
- Managing the project members in order to achieve the migration "milestones" with regard to the Close to Report activities that moved to the Shared Service Centre: including VAT, reporting.
- Determining the activities that would move to FSSC, in collaboration with the Belgian colleagues.
- Responsible for the overall Financefocus SOX process for the Belgian clients.
Results
- A smoothly running administration for the Belgian clients, handled from the Unilever Financial Service Centre in Vlaardingen.
- Improvements were achieved which resulted in obvious efficiency benefits in relation to the situation before the setup of the Service Centre.
Assignment 3: Financefocus Unilever
(November 2004 - June 2005)
Summary of the situation
Operating from within the Financial Service Centre, Cantor contributed substantially to the preparations and the actual annual balancing (2004) of Ola Productie B.V. In his role at the Financial Service Centre, Cantor reported to the Team Leader CtR (Close to Report).
Activities
- Responsible for the General Ledger which consisted of e.g. the connection of subaccounts to the General Ledger, the correct application of Unilever and fiscal accounting principles, etc.
- Responsible for the balancing of the book-months to determine the results and the balance positions, and reporting to the Business Group and Unilever Netherlands in accordance with the IFRS standards.
- Responsible for the overall Financefocus SOX process for the client, Ola Productie B.V.
- Active contribution to the continuous improvement of the administrative processing of the information to be delivered.
Results
- A smoothly running administration for the client(s), in this case Ola Productie B.V., handled from the Unilever Financial Service Centre in Vlaardingen..
- Improvements were achieved which resulted in obvious efficiency benefits in relation to the situation before the setup of the Service Centre.
Assignment 2: Financefocus Unilever
(January 2004 - November 2004)
Summary of the situation
Within Financefocus, Cantor completely set up and shaped the ‘new role' of Focal Point for the clients URDV and CCA. Focal Point is responsible for maintaining and managing customer relations. In his role of Focal Point URDV / CCA, Cantor reported directly to the Manager CtR (Close to Report).
Activities
- Contact for the clients, URDV and CCA.
- Identifying as well as initiating activities the moment processes are not running in accordance with the Service Level Agreement (SLA).
- Responsible for the overall Financefocus SOX process for the clients, URDV and CCA.
- Maintaining intensive contacts with the managers and employees at Financefocus (URDV / CCA related) in order to tackle any issues / problems for these specific clients at an early stage.
- Measure and analyse the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) in collaboration with the Controller.
- Preparing and chairing Customer Service Review meetings.
- ‘Helpdesk' to the Manager Shared Service Centre for these specific clients.
- Building and maintaining a service mindset at Financefocus.
- Contributing to a variety of URDV activities at the Close to Report department.
Results
An obvious improvement of the customer relations for the clients, URDV and CCA, compared to the starting point of the role of Focal Point.
A KPI score for both clients that structurally exceeded 80%.

Summary of the situation
Operating from the Iglo Mora Group B.V., which is a subsidiary of Unilever N.V., Cantor played an important part in transferring and implementing the financial tasks from the Operations Company (OpCo) in 's-Hertogenbosch to the Unilever Financial Service Centre in Vlaardingen. In this job, Cantor reported directly to the Team Leader CtR (Close to Report).
Activities
- Responsible for the General Ledger which consisted of e.g. the connection of subaccounts to the General Ledger, the correct application of Unilever and fiscal accounting principles, etc.
- Responsible for the balancing of the book-months to determine the results and the balance positions, and reporting to the Business Group and Unilever Netherlands in accordance with the IFRS standards.
- Maintaining the AO Manual and the authorisation schedules.
- Active contribution to the continuous improvement of the administrative processing of the information to be delivered.
